blank panels, can't get rid of -
06-23-2009, 04:27 PM
Somehow I got a bunch of blank panels in my Eclipse Java interface and I can't get rid of them. See attached image, I circled problem panels in green.
I'm using eclipse Ganymede.
It started by noticing there was a blank resizable panel between my source editors and the Problems/Javadoc/Declaration/Search etc. panel.
I started clicking, dragging, etc on it and trying to get rid of it, instead I spawned more blank panels and can't get them to leave. Right-clicking on them does not bring up a menu. Resetting perspective doesn't help. Choosing a different perspective doesn't help.
I'm stuck. Can anyone help with this?
Thanks.

Hi Simon,
I don't know what causes your problem here, but I have something similar in my Eclipse (Ganymede) installation after trying a sample RCP application. I now have two additional senseless pulldown menus as well as the corresponding buttons in Eclipse's cool bar. So it might be worth looking for an application that inserts those panels into your workbench.
Regards,
Heiko

Thanks for the reply.
My only solution so far is to create a new workspace and import all of my projects into it, then rename it to the original workspace. That somehow resets the interface -- far to drastic a measure.
I hope eclipse developers can fix this or make the "saved config" files more transparent so we can go in and edit out whatever is messing up our configurations.
BTW, I'm also getting problems in the java editors with Ganymede. I typically create up to 3 editors windows into the same file. The clipboard often throws errors and the screen freezes. Sometimes the display gets corrupted, lines jump around.

Hi simon
Actually, I didnt meet this kind of situation, then i hope this may help you find a way out.
Click on the perspective view button to set it under the selection situation, try to reset this perspective.

In case you haven't yet fixed your problem, here's a suggestion:
It looks to me like you have extra views. If you go to the preferences menu, you should find an entry title "Customize Perspective". I think that if you search through that for a little bit, you should find your problem. These settings can get rid of buttons and views.
