Default Good Printing from Linux '''impossible'''; suggestions? - 08-04-2009, 11:38 AM

I've been wasting paper 2 days now, trying to produce a 'nice' hard copy of some RefCardz for personal reference and library.

Evince, seems to 'cut' whatever is from the Title and up (although RefCardz are smaller than A4 format...) so you cannot see the RefCard number or title... on any page... also Evince won't allow for centering the page somehow.

Odd, because I use the HP C7280 which is borderless.

Printing from GIMP will result in any text being parsed as a graphic, so you cannot actually read anything from the print, although it allowed me to center tha page.

Finally, Okular (KDE), great for annotating... acts the same as Evince. Although Okular DOES have more options.

Has anyone had Any luck finding an application that could EASILY allow for setting up the settings and printing? It's kind of annoying that they won't print R.O.O.T.B... ;-)

Thanks...

Hi there. Here at DZone, we routinely print the Refcardz from our Mac and Windows machines on standard HP inkjet printers from any PDF reader. The downloaded version should be one page per printed page and should fit nicely.

I can imagine, i'm pretty sure the RefCardz follow standards, I'm not so sure whether Linux does. In any case, to visualize the printing result, printing the first page of #14 (both from Evince and Okular) I get about 1.5cm as top margin shows the bottom of the "DZONEREFCARDZ" logo (unreadable... only +-3mm is there), same with the NetBeans logo. Interestingly enough, I have another 3cm on the bottom, but everything prints until the end.

Anyway, just annoying I guess, I will figure out something; was more like targeting on someone that has/had the same problem and figured out some 'standard' settings.

P.S.: Enabling the 'scale to fit' setting systemwide now shows me half the DZone Refcardz logo and 'almost' all the NetBeans logo.
