Default Forge to host java OSS? - 01-05-2009, 02:09 PM

Hi there and happy new year.

Well, I have finally decided not to be shy and release as OSS (most of it as LGPL or Apache license) some libs and utils I made. I would like to choose some forge to host the project(s) but have zero experience with any (apart from downloading, svn checkout and submitting patches but that does not count ).

My requirements are basic:
* SVN
* simple to use forums and bug tracking system
* at least some exposure to crawlers, blogs, blah blah - so that it is not just sitting there as I think it might be really useful

I took a look at
SourceForge.net: Open Source Software
JavaForge
Tigris.org: Open Source Software Engineering
Project Kenai — We're More Than Just a Forge
Google Code
OW2 - Home Page

but can't make up my mind

Anyone can help, recommend any, please?

Thanks,

Hi there. Until recently, DZone operated JavaForge and as of Jan 1. the guys who build the Codebeamer software are running it on the Amazon cloud. With this move, they added Mercurial support and more stable Subversion support (upgraded to Subversion 1.5). I'd at least give it a look and see if it fits your needs. Unlike some other services, I believe they still let you move your code (we always did) if you decide to leave.
